"We believe that a fair division of profits from sports betting can benefit the state and our industry, and that this new addition to the gambling menu can have a positive impact on the handle on harness races".

The Supreme Court of the US has struck down a federal law that bars gambling on basketball, baseball, football and other sports as well in most of the states, opening the door to legalizing the estimated $150 billion in illegal wagers on professional and amateur sports that Americans make every year.

"The PASPA provision at issue here-prohibiting state authorization of sports gambling-violates the anticommandeering rule". The new CT law allows state officials "to regulate wagering on sporting events to the extent permitted by state and federal law".

The 1992 law at issue in the case bars state-authorized sports gambling with exceptions for Nevada, Montana, Oregon and DE, states that had approved some form of sports wagering before the law took effect. National Collegiate Athletic Association and released Monday, the 6-3 ruling struck down a 1992 law that banned state authorization and licensing of sports gambling schemes, except in Nevada.

"The legalization of sports gambling requires an important policy choice, but the choice is not ours to make".

It's not like casino gaming is struggling in Oklahoma.

The ruling does not legalize sports gambling nationwide, but allows states to make that decision. "Regardless of the particulars of any future sports betting law, the integrity of our game remains our highest priority".

But, for that to happen, each state will have to authorize it statutorily. The measure "unequivocally dictates what a state legislature may and may not do", he wrote.

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito delivered the majority opinion, being joined by Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Anthony Kennedy, Clarence Thomas, Elena Kagan, and Neil Gorsuch.
