The Spartans now stand in 10th place and are 10 shots out of the top five at the 7,364-yard course.

North Dakota State is slated to tee off in the second round at 9:20 a.m. PT Tuesday, May 15. The top golfer that's not part of a qualifying team will also advance to the NCAA Championships, and only SMU's McClure Meissner (-2) is ahead of Fishburn among players that aren't on one of the five top teams.

"We are still in the game, but we did not start out well", BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said.

Sophomore Spencer Ralston led the Bulldogs in the second round as he signed for an even-par 72.


Jake McCrory turned in a 3-over-par 75 with a tough double bogey at the par-4 ninth hole, hampering an otherwise steady day that saw him finish with three birdies as well.

Five Cougars are competing in the tournament, and the top four scores will count.

The redshirt junior played at 1 over par across his last 13 holes after starting 5 over through the first five. He is now tied for 19th place out 75 golfers going into the final round today. Norton (freshman, Chico, Calif.) played his final five holes 2-under-par, and Ogletree (sophomore, Little Rock, Miss.) posted four birdies on the back nine. Walker was 3-over-par in both halves of his round on Monday.

Arkansas State University senior Tanner Napier fired a 3 under to reach even par for the regional and moved up 17 spots into a tie for 19th place. The 16th-ranked Longhorns completed 36 holes at 544 (24 under par), while the Wolfpack have a tournament total of 552 (-16). The second round will begin at 11 AM with a shotgun start.
