Stephen King Cracks Joke About Melania Trump's Hospitalization

Though the President remained at the White House during the surgery, he traveled to the hospital in Marine One in the evening, where he visited with his wife for over an hour.

Just after 5:00 p.m. on Monday, Trump did tweet that he was headed to Walter Reed to visit the First Lady, declaring her procedure "successful", saying she was in good spirits, and thanking well-wishers.

"Not to be snarky, but Melania can probably use a week's rest from Blabbermouth Don", wrote Stephen King in a tweet sent to his 4.8 million followers. The White House said the procedure was "successful" and that there were no complications.

More proof that very little, if anything, will stop the president's online ranting-or rearrange his priorities.

"This morning, first lady Melania Trump underwent an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney condition". Within five minutes, he'd progressed to a rant about Chinese trade negotiations.

Two urologists who have no personal knowledge of Mrs. Trump's condition said the most likely explanation for the procedure is a kind of noncancerous kidney tumor called an angiomyolipoma.

Mrs Trump's aides didn't offer any additional details on her condition, though Vice President Mike Pence described the procedure as "long-planned". "The First Lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere".

In 2006, Laura Bush had surgery to remove a squamous cell carcinoma tumor - or skin cancer - from her right shin; in 2007, she had surgery to alleviate pinched nerves in her neck.

They're not common but tend to occur in middle-aged women and can cause problematic bleeding if they become large enough, said Dr. Keith Kowalczyk of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.

According to Elizabeth Kavaler, a urologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in NY, the first lady may have a common, benign tumor of the kidney called an angiomyolipoma, or AML. They have a 12-year-old son named Barron.

Moreover, word of the diagnosis and the planned surgical procedure never leaked out of a White House defined by constant leaks.

Mrs. Trump, who has been raising her profile as first lady, recently hosted a state dinner - her first - for the president of France.
