The top lawyer at Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis stepped down on Wednesday following revelations that the company made payments to President Donald Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen.

It will soon be revealed that Stormy Daniels was not alone in alleging an affair with President Donald Trump and signing a non-disclosure agreement with Michael Cohen to cover it up, the adult film star's lawyer said Thursday.

Trump's attorney, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, earlier this month said that Trump reimbursed Cohen $130,000 for the payment to Clifford before Trump's 2016 election.

The Justice Department could now look into whether the payment to Daniels should have been disclosed under campaign finance laws, but there's no indication of an active investigation into that matter.

The Stormy Daniels payment is a potential legal problem for the president because it could be seen as an illegal campaign contribution. Playboy model Karen McDougal has also alleged in a lawsuit that Cohen was involved in a $150,000 agreement she made with a Trump-friendly tabloid publisher to prevent her from telling the story of her alleged 2006 affair with Trump to any other outlet.

The Cohen footnote appears in a report giving the first extended look at Trump's revenue from his properties since he became president. "I mean, there were very few people who knew the people that were being placed in a lot of jobs".

Giuliani, said Wednesday that the Cohen case is of no concern.

Mr Giuliani said the transaction was to keep Ms Daniels quiet about her "false and extortionist accusation" that she had sex with Mr Trump, suggesting her claim could have damaged his candidacy.

Cohen's attorney, Steve Ryan, refused to discuss the $500,000 deposit when requested to do so by The Atlantic, but insisted it "wasn't a payment".

The Office of Government Ethics, which released the report, disagreed with that assessment.

CREW, a liberal-leaning watchdog group, filed a complaint with the ethics office that was referenced in Apol's letter. Last month, his home, office and hotel room were raided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with records of the payment to Daniels among the materials seized. "The category of value would be United States dollars 100,001-USD 250,000 and the interest rate would be zero", it said, noting that the president is doing so in the interest of transparency, even as he is not required by law. It says Trump "fully reimbursed Mr. Cohen in 2017". His Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla., received $25 million, and his golf club in Bedminster, N.J., generated $15 million.

It said the payments continued because the contract could not have been terminated.

The head of the nation's ethics office questioned why Trump didn't include this in his previous year's sworn disclosure and passed along his concerns to federal prosecutors.
