Rogue Kangaroo Spotted on South Carolina Highway

"Every once in a while someone will see it (the kangaroo) and tell their friends then get told they're nuts".

According to the McCormick County Emergency Services, a kangaroo has been spotted along the sides of Highway 28 South.

It is legal to have a kangaroo as a pet in SC, and Gray sister station WRDW reports the owner of the kangaroo has all the proper licensing to keep the animal.

Obviously, kangaroos are not native to SC.


In his 31-year career, McCormick County Sheriff Clark Stearns has never gotten a call like this.

"I thought dispatch was joking", a deputy from the sheriff's office commented in the kangaroo post.

The incident of the escaped 'roo had plenty of Americans excited Videos of the escapee also made it online: Thankfully, the kangaroo was found and returned to its owner.

Multiple Augusta-area outlets reported Tuesday afternoon that the kangaroo is back home.
