"It gives me great pleasure that so many people have come out to see me".

The 40-year-old Buffon helped Juventus win a record-extending seventh straight Serie A on Sunday, four days after he led Juventus to a fourth straight Italian Cup title.

"Saturday will be my last match with Juventus and I do believe it will be the most attractive thing to end my adventure this way", he said.

The 40-year-old will play his final game for the club on Saturday, when the Serie A champions conclude their campaign against Verona at Allianz Stadium. "I think that the national team already has some great young players who need to be given a chance". "As his sister and a former athlete I want to hear him say: "I'm stopping because I don't have it anymore", but that's not how it is. Interesting proposals have now arrived". I was always be grateful to all of you forever.

Buffon helped Italy lift the World Cup in 2006 and holds a record of 176 caps with the Azzurri, retiring from the national team in November when they failed to qualify for Russian Federation 2018. During his time with Parma he also won the Coppa Italia, UEFA Cup and Italian Supercoppa in 1999.

The Champions League eluded him, though, even though he appeared in three finals, most recently losing out to Barcelona in 2015 and Real Madrid in 2017.

"Not to mention that in the Champions League, at the Bernabeu, he put in a fantastic performance". Then, Buffon delivered arguably the most unsavoury moment of his distinguished career. I always had a sporting and correct conduct with everybody. "Saturday's match is the only thing that is for certain", said Buffon.

"Two days later, of course I was sorry to have, let's say, offended the referee, because at the end of the day the referee is a human who has a hard job". Buffon is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers of all time.
