Alabama and Texas announced a home-and-home series Wednesday that will feature games during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Texas owns a 7-1-1 record against Alabama. Having last met in the 2009 National Championship Game at the Rose Bowl, the Longhorns and Crimson Tide have played nine times dating back to 1902 with Texas holding a 7-1-1 series advantage.

Although big-time nonconference games at the beginning of the season always make college football better, one drawback for fans was the increase in neutral site matchups.

The first game will take place in Austin, Texas, on September 10, 2022 with the Longhorns making a return trip to Tuscaloosa the following year. UT ranks second in all-time victories with 898 while Alabama ranks fifth with 891. The last meeting on either school's home field was in 1922, when Alabama traveled to Austin. The two were set to have a home-and-home in 2022-23, but that has now been moved back to 2025-26 to accommodate Alabama vs. Texas. All matchups since the 1947 Sugar Bowl have come in postseason appearances.

Texas tossed in an announced home game against UTEP in 2020 to this release.

The future non-conference schedules for Alabama now include games with Louisville (2018), Duke (2019), USC (2020), Miami (2021), and Texas in 2022 and 2023.

The Longhorns have also canceled a potentially-notable game.

"We're thrilled to be able to add another incredible non-conference opponent with the University of Texas for a home-and-home series", said Alabama Director of Athletics Greg Byrne.
