Major League Baseball announced Thursday that Red Sox pitcher Joe Kelly and Yankees DH Tyler Austin will be suspended for their roles in Wednesday's benches-clearing brawl between the teams.

The Red Sox were forced to burn closer Craig Kimbrel in the ninth after reliever Marcus Walden walked two and allowed three runs in what was supposed to be mop-up duty protecting a 6-0 lead. It looked like Porcello might be done after a 45-minute rain delay but instead he came back and logged two more innings, helping out a bullpen that was running on fumes after David Price's abbreviated outing on Wednesday. The Red Sox chose to let Porcello continue pitching when the game resumed.

But he returned in the sixth and delivered an efficient 14-pitch inning, including strikeouts of both Ronald Torreyes and Brett Gardner. An error by the usually sure-handed Tyler Wade - whose batting average now sits at.097 - and a misplay by Giancarlo Stanton that turned a routine fly ball to left into a ground-rule RBI double didn't help matters either.

Red Sox: LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (0-0, 7.36 ERA) faces Baltimore RHP Chris Tillman (0-2, 8.68 ERA) in the opener of a four-game series against the Orioles.

Jose Martinez drove in six runs and belted one of the Cardinals' four home runs in a 13-4 thrashing of the Reds.

Kelly, Austin, Boston manager Alex Cora and NY third base coach Phil Nevin also were fined. On Wednesday, Ramirez hit a home run with an exit velocity 117.5 miles per hour.

The Boston Red Sox right-hander won the American League Cy Young Award in 2016, lost both his sinker and his mojo previous year and tried everything this past winter to get it back.

"I probably said something I shouldn't have to start the whole thing, so I'm sorry for that", Holt said.

Sonny Gray lasted just three innings on Thursday.

.

Then again, there were the second and third innings. Both HBPs by both pitchers were clearly a ball that got away from them on a wet night in Boston. "I told him I would go out there whenever he wants". But on Wednesday night, things would get well out of hand between the two sides.

The Red Sox said X-rays were negative.

The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees brought some snarl back to their storied rivalry this week, and it's a welcome change from the past few years of genteel, gentlemanly back and forth. But Red Sox manager Alex Cora, who served as the Houston Astros' bench coach last season, recalled hearing Carlos Beltran talk about Porcello's velocity and movement remaining consistent but his changeup being less effective than in the past.
