WARS: Ian Somerhalder Signs Onto Supernatural Netflix Series

Ian Somerhalder to Star in Netflix Vampire Drama Series 'V-Wars'

Ian Somerhalder to Star in Netflix Vampire Drama Series 'V-Wars'

"The Vampire Diaries" alum Ian Somerhalder is returning to familiar turf with "V-Wars", which got a 10-episode straight-to-series order from Netflix.

The series follows the adventures of Dr. Luther Swann (Somerhalder) as he attempts to understand the mysterious disease that transforms his best friend, Michael Fayne, and others into vampires. While Luther looks for answers about the plague affecting the world, Michael will become a leader of the underground vampire movement.

Somerhalder is, as discussed above, best known for his role as Damon Salvatore of The Vampire Diaries which ran from 2009 to 2017. Based on the Jonathan Maberry IDW graphic novels, V-Wars has been ordered to a ten-episode season for Netflix.

No word yet on when Somerhalder's series will hit the 'Flix, but we're readying our wooden stakes just in case. This time, Somerhalder will be on the other side of the human-vampire struggle. As this disease spreads and more people are turned into murderous predators, social structures fracture and an "us against them" mentality pits humans against vampires. High Park's Eric Birnberg and Thomas Walden will executive produce alongside IDW Entertainment president David Ozer, IDW CEO Ted Adams and Marada Pictures' Games Gibb.

According to THR, another IDW adaptation, "Locke & Key", is waiting on a new home after Hulu passed on the pilot. Brad Turner (Stargate, Stargate Atlantis) will direct and exec produce.

Since leaving The Vampire Diaries, Ian Somerhalder and his wife, Nikki Reed, have welcomed their first child together, daughter Bodhi Soleil Reed Somerhalder.

It seems best friend will be pitted against best friend as the V-Wars rage on our TV screens. He is repped by ICM Partners, Untitled Entertainment and Morris Yorn. More recently, he played a regular role on The CW's horror drama The Vampire Series.
