UN Security Council Meeting Over Syrian Crisis

США рассматривают возможность международного военного ответа в Сирии

The Syrian military is said to be evacuating its bases near the Lebanon border and transporting its personnel to Russian army sites amid growing concern over an imminent United States strike, an expected reprisal for the alleged chemical attack carried out by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Saturday.

The tweet came just hours after the Russian ambassador to Lebanon reportedly said Russia would shoot down any US missiles aimed at Syria.

Trump berated Russian Federation for partnering with an "animal" like Syrian Dictator Bashar al-Assad, who is suspected of using chemical weapons in the ongoing civil war in Syria.

At least 60 people were killed and more than 1000 injured in Saturday's suspected chemical weapons attack on the town of Douma, according to a Syrian relief group.

"The president has been clear we're working with our partners and allies and our national security team to look at all options", said White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

Russian Federation has previously voted to block a resolution that would give United Nations investigators a wider mandate on chemical weapons in Syria, Michele added. At a photo-taking session during a meeting with his Dutch counterpart, Mattis was asked by a reporter whether he had seen enough evidence to blame the Syrian government. In the past Trump has vowed to stand up to Syrian President Bashar Assad. This is in contrast to an incident one year ago in which USA intelligence agencies had video and other evidence of certain aspects of the actual attack, which involved the use of sarin gas.

US President Trump warned that Russia, Iran and Syria will have a "big price to pay" following the suspected chemical attack, saying his administration will soon be making "some major decisions" on Syria.

Other western leaders have been much more cautious in the language they have used to describe the apparent chemical weapons attack.

However, the World Health Organisation said on Wednesday it had received reports that hundreds of people had visited Syrian health facilities with "signs and symptoms consistent with exposure to toxic chemicals" at the weekend.

But even so, Trump remained reluctant to deepen USA involvement over a longer term. "The President and Prime Minister agreed not to allow the use of chemical weapons to continue", the White House said in a readout of the call.

Syria invited the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, a respected global watchdog, to conduct an investigation.

Michael Barbero, a retired Army lieutenant general, said Trump and Obama stayed within the bounds when they warned of attacks. Eurocontrol, Europe's main air traffic control agency, said aircraft flying in the eastern Mediterranean should exercise caution due to possible military action against Syria. The US proposal would allegedly determine culpability for chemical weapons attacks.

Mr Nebenzia accused the USA of "planting this resolution" as a "pretext" to justify military action. Syria denied the allegations and, along with ally Russian Federation, invited the organization to send in an investigative team.
