Back in the 1990s, Nintendo and Sega were in virtual hand-to-hand combat for dominance in gaming consoles, and they each had their own gaming franchises, Nintendo with Mario, and Sega with Sonic the Hedgehog. The first SEGA AGES batch will come out this summer.

Sega is bringing a slate of its classic titles to Nintendo Switch. On the heels of NIS America announcing that it will release a compilation of classic SNK games on the Switch, Sega is following suit. The company previously stated that over 15 games are now planned. These won't be straight ports, either, as Sega is planning to make enhancements to each one, even though right now we're not clear on what that means.

So far, we know about a handful of the games that will be released over the course of this year, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Alex Kidd In Miracle World, Gain Ground, Phantasy Star and Thunder Force IV.

It was also announced that Gain Ground will be joined by other arcade games, while Rieko Kodama was also confirmed as the producer on the new Sega Ages project.

As somebody who's into both Sega and retro games, I've heard a lot about Sega Ages, but I've never had a chance to try out the series for myself.

The Sega Ages ports are being handled by M2, the studio behind the Sega 3D Classics series on 3DS. "Translating the Pokemon featured text we get this in English: "‏After a lifetime associated with portable consoles, the canonical pokemon will take the leap to a table with its eighth generation. game freak and the pokemon company are rethinking the saga to surprise with new mechanics, either in 2018 or later". This collection will mark the first time that several SEGA titles have had official launches in the West.
