President Farmajo leaves for Saudi Arabia to attend Arab League Summit

Permanent Representative of Qatar to the Arab League Ambassador Saif bin Muqaddam Al Buainain heads Qatar's delegation participating in the ordinary Arab League Summit at its 29th session, which begins on Sunday in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.

In his opening speech to the summit, Saudi King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz reiterated that East Jerusalem will remain part of the Palestinian territories.

The move has sparked deep anger among the Palestinians - who see East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state - and across the Arab world.

On Sunday, King Salman made it clear he was unhappy with Mr Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital , an opinion backed by the other leaders at the summit.

Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit criticised the lack of consensus among Arab states on matters of regional security, adding that "joint action is necessary in fighting these crises". And despite being an ally of the United States, the ruler also criticised US President Donald Trump controversial decision to transfer America's embassy from Tel Aviv to Occupied Jerusalem.

"The crises burning in some corners of the Arab world today. cast a shadow over the safety and security over the entire region", Mr Aboul-Gheit said.

Regional powerhouses Saudi Arabia and Iran have been locked in a decades-long struggle for supremacy that is being waged in proxy wars in several countries, including Yemen and Syria. "Regional interference in Arab affairs has reached an unprecedented degree".

He told Arab leaders that Iran was to blame for instability and meddling in the region.

Saudi Arabia will use the summit to seek Arab support to pile the pressure on Iran.

The league also called for an worldwide probe into the "criminal" use of chemical weapons in Syria. The one-day summit, being held in Dhahran, comes amid a lot of things happening in the Middle East.

The report also said that the president of the 28th Arab summit, HM King Abdullah II, reaffirmed that a comprehensive and just peace in the region would only come about through the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, as partial formulas in addressing the region's crises or bypassing the Palestinian issue will never bring the stability aspired-for by Arabs. Doha denies the charges and says the boycott is an attempt to impinge on its sovereignty.

"Tehran's principled policy has always been based on maintaining more convergence and mutual respect for the sovereignty of other countries, especially the neighbours, and the observance of good neighbourliness".
