Ronaldo led real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals

Cristiano Ronaldo's controversial 97th-minute penalty ensured Los Blancos' passage into the last four of the competition, 4-3 aggregate, after almost throwing away a 3-0 first-leg advantage. "It's a shame it ends like this".

Zinedine Zidane's side led their quarter-final tie 3-0 from the first leg but found themselves trailing by the same scoreline in Madrid after Blaise Matuidi added to Mario Mandzukic's first-half brace.

Mario Mandzukic's first-half brace stunned the Santiago Bernabeu before a terrible error from Keylor Navas saw Blaise Matuidi wipe out what remained of Madrid's commanding 3-0 first-leg advantage.

Ronaldo hammered the penalty shot into the top corner, and he celebrated by ripping off his shirt and yelling with the Real Madrid fans in attendance.

Ronaldo stepped up to beat Wojciech Szczesny after a long delay, continuing his incredible run of scoring in every match of this season's UEFA Champions League on his 150th appearance in the competition.

Ronaldo's knockdown looked to have set Vazquez up to score before the touch from Benatia sent the substitute to the ground. Juventus players stormed toward English referee Michael Oliver, who apparently had help from his behind-the-goal assistant to make the call.

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri said he had a brief encounter in the tunnel with Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, who didn't play because of a suspension.

"I could've told the referee anything at that moment, but he had to understand the degree of the disaster he was creating", he said. The champion of Italy after the defeat 0:3 in Torino, stopped a step away from overtime. "Not clear-cut. And a dubious incident at the 93rd minute when we had a clear penalty denied in the first leg, you can not award that at this point", he said. "That allowed their team to grow and it made things hard for us".

Navas wasn't having the best of games and he was culpable for Juve's third goal on the hour mark. In the end it was heroic failure for the Old Lady, while Real's tag as favourites to lift the trophy for a third straight season may need some revision. Again Mandzukic jumped higher than Dani Carvajal as he nodded between Navas' right hand and the near post.

Vazquez went down under the challenge from behind and Oliver pointed to the spot to give Real Madrid a lifeline to avoid playing extra time and possibly penalties.
