Michael Anton, who served as a spokesman for the National Security Council, resigned on Sunday.

Schadlow was a principal author of the President's National Security Strategy document, which sought to outline the administration's foreign policy goals and view of the world.

Schadlow is believed to be close to former national security adviser H.R. McMaster. A senior White House official said Schadlow spoke with Bolton on Tuesday and submitted her resignation "to allow him to build his own NSC leadership team".

Sanders said, "Tom led the White House's efforts to protect the homeland from terrorist threats, strengthen our cyber defenses and respond to an unprecedented series of natural disasters".

The resignations come during Bolton's first week at the White House.

Japanese national security adviser Shotaro Yachi was also expected to visit Washington to meet Bolton ahead of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's talks with Trump next week, a US official familiar with the matter said. Though they now share staff, the NSC and HSC conduct their own meetings and handle their own policy issues.

Under the George W. Bush administration, the HSC and NSC worked as separate staffs.

President Trump appointed Bolton to replace National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster just last month.

"I don't have any other personnel announcements to make at this time", White House press secretary Sarah Sanders told Newsmax after we asked if there were any other changes coming in Bolton's official family. Bolton served as USA permanent representative to the United Nations from 2005 to 2006, and as undersecretary of state for arms control and worldwide security from 2001 to 2005.
