A week after City surrendered a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 to United and squander the chance to wrap up the title in ideal style against their arch-rivals, it was relegation-bound West Brom who served it up on a plate.

And ahead of Sunday's game against West Brom, Mourinho challenged Pogba to erase the occasional substandard performance from his repertoire.

But Pogba produced a fine second-half display which included two excellent goals to inspire a turnaround and he later said a conversation with Carrick - who is set to join Mourinho's coaching staff at the end of the season - played a major part.

"You can not imagine", Guardiola said on Saturday before the title race was decided. If I expect him to score goals every match? No. "And the past two, three weeks I'm really happy with him".

'That's the issue he has to position to himself, to take care of a certain stability, not have the good match, the so-so match and the damaging match.

Manchester United star Michael Carrick has admitted he was glad what he said helped Paul Pogba perform vs Manchester City.

"I don't know if I was the first or second or third but I congratulated them face to face when I had the chance", Mourinho said.

"If we won a league, fans would not worry about their style of play". But when we do something positive, then also tell the truth.

That is just one of a welter of statistical feats that have led some to rank City among the Premier League's greatest ever teams.

They've now won three of the last seven PL titles available.

"We are a team that has already more points than last season, a team that's had brilliant matches and a team that showed character many times". The rest of the squad was spread out across Europe, and even beyond, on their day off after City's 3-1 win at Tottenham on Saturday night had left the league title agonizingly close.

It was City's 14th consecutive victory - a new Premier League record - and one they would go on to extend by another five matches.

'Eventually, I think I would like to be a manager.
