A Palestinian demonstrator wearing a mask covers his nose with a plastic cup filled with perfume and cotton to protect himself from inhaling tear gas fired by Israeli troops during a protest at the Israel-Gaza border in the southern Gaza Strip April 10, 2018.

Hamas spokesperson, Hazim Qassim, tweeted in response that "the Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip constitutes a failed attempt to terrorize the masses of our people after it's participation in the marches of return". Rushdi Farraj, Murtaja's business partner, said the grant was awarded to establish a graphics department under USAID's "Compete" project, which helps develop the Palestinian private sector. The paper uses 30 words and still fails to convey the critical information that can be communicated in seven words: Israel kills nine Palestinian protesters in Gaza.

Breaking the Silence, an Israeli veterans' organisation, claimed the video shows the reality of the situation on the ground.

The United States has not yet commented on his shooting.

Despite the claim that someone was shot in the head, and the fact that two protesters were killed on that day, the army said its preliminary investigation indicated that the protester in the video had been hit in the leg, after other means of dispersing "violent riots" in a part of Gaza adjacent to the Israeli community of Kissufim had failed.

"As for the unauthorised filming of an operational event, the distribution of the filmed material and the statements made there, it should be noted that these do not suit the degree of restraint expected of IDF (Israel Defence Force) soldiers and will be dealt with by commanders accordingly", the statement said.

"Son of a bi**h!" one soldier, who appears to have recorded the video, yells.

In the footage of the incident, voices can be heard discussing opening fire on Palestinians walking on the other side of the border fence.

Israel says it opens fire when necessary to stop damage to the border fence, infiltrations and attempted attacks. "If they were men they would face me without weapons as I faced them", he said. There has been no apparent reason for Israel to use live ammunition.

It was not possible to determine whether the person shot in the video died.

Despite the army's statement of disapproval, senior Israeli officials went out of their way to defend the behavior of the soldiers caught on video laughing and cheering.

The IDF is the most moral army in the world, but there can be no doubt when you are at the front and under a lot of tension and there is a need to unwind your nerves, there are emotions and one can understand it.
