Zaman has established himself as a regular member in the limited overs squads and will be joined in the Test side by Imam-ul-Haq, Usman Salahuddin, Saad Ali and Faheem Ashraf.

Pakistan selectors overlooked 32-year-old batsman Fawad Alam despite strong domestic form as they picked five uncapped players in the 16-man squad for their Tests against Ireland and England starting next month.

While Imam has been given a chance in the longest format of the game after his blistering century on his ODI debut against Sri Lanka late a year ago, Ashraf has been included in Test squad on the back of some impressive performances in the shorter formats of the game. Despite it being one of his worst seasons in the domestic circuit, Fawad was the sixth highest run-scorer of the tournament with 570 runs at an average just above 40.

Spinner Shadab Khan has also been chosen to replace the injured Yasir Shah, who is set to miss the tour with a hip problem.

Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Abbas, Hasan Ali and Rahat Ali were four pace bowlers selected with left-arm quick Wahab Riaz left out after coach Mickey Arthur questioned his work ethic.

He has played three tests for Pakistan and also scored a brilliant knock of 168 runs on his second Test innings against Sri Lanka in 2009. "If we look at his numbers for the last two years, he has more wickets than any other bowler for Pakistan". Secondly, we've borne in mind that the World Cup next year is in England. "He played a big part in all the games we won".

This is going to be Ireland's first ever tryst with Test cricket.

Meanwhile, Inzamam revealed that Wahab has been excluded from the squad as he has not been performing well recently.

Pakistan will play a Test match against Ireland from May 11-15.
