Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg admits he was a victim of data breach

Mark Zuckerberg Faces Congress -- Live Analysis

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg made his second of two appearances before Congress on Wednesday, enduring a five-hour session of questions from members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Again, a similar unwillingness to answer.

Matt Stoller is a fellow at an anti-monopoly think tank and said, "That's what this is really about".

"There's a strong element of privacy questions, a sort of creepiness vibe, because Facebook is a surveillance machine", Stoller said. "Why should we trust you?" asked Democratic Representative Mike Doyle.

The company collects data on anyone who visits the website, even if they don't have an account. "In general people don't like paying, in some parts of the world they can't pay", he said.

After contradictory replies from the two companies on potential data breach of Indian users, the government now plans to seek additional clarification from them, the sources said. To which Zuckerberg responded, "Yes, there will always be a version of Facebook that is free".

And because Facebook claims it's for security, there's no way to turn it off.

"This is actually a concern that I have, and that I try to root out in the company is making sure that we don't have any bias in the work that we do, and I think it is a fair concern that people would at least wonder about".

He said he was not familiar with so-called "shadow profiles", which media reports have described as collections of data about users that they have no knowledge of or control over.

When New York Representative Paul Tonko asked if Facebook should "bear the liability for the misuse of people's data", Zuckerberg responded that the company takes "responsibility", but refused to claim his company was liable, stating CA was exclusively at fault.

"Mr. Zuckerberg's answered a lot of questions today. but there are also a lot of promises to follow up with some of our members and sometimes on questions about Facebook practices that seem fairly straightforward", Thune said.

"I would say that I would second-guess using social media and you have to be more careful what you put on sites like that", Anderson added. "November of a year ago CNBC had an article saying you were surprised by the breadth of this opioid crises, but as you can see from these pictures opioids are still available on your site". I don't know what information was leaked out and what it means to my Facebook.

"Every time someone chooses to share something on Facebook.there is a control. Through those tools, Facebook is able to collect information from all of us". Sandberg said that the company has "different forms of opt out" but not one button for everything. It's as if the owner of the phone company could also listen to your conversations. Recently when Apple CEO Tim Cook slammed Facebook for the privacy mess it has found itself in, Zuckerberg hit back saying that his service was for masses and not just for very rich people, hinting that Apple products are created for people who can afford to spend hundreds of dollars.
