Broncos to release running back C.J. Anderson

Anderson's time in Denver is done. His yards-per-carry average was just 4.1, however, and his production over the last couple years did not entirely justify the cap hit he would have carried in 2018.

The Denver Broncos have released veteran running back C.J. Anderson, according to multiple reports. He signed a four-year contract in 2016, but the deal had no guaranteed money in the final two seasons of the deal, which meant the Broncos could release him without owing Anderson a cent.

The Broncos are widely expected to look for a running back at this month's draft.

As for Anderson, his release could finally open the door for him to find his way to the Dolphins. Like I said, we're looking at every option that we can and where our football team is. But I'm going to focus on myself.

Anderson is coming off the best volume season of his career, during which he ran for over 1,000 yards and totaled four touchdowns. He also had 28 catches for 224 receiving yards. Two years later, the Broncos made a decision to part ways with the running back.
