Apple warns employees: Leaking iPhone info can land you in jail

Ironically, Bloomberg sourced this news from a "leaked Apple memo" which was posted on Apple's internal blog. 12 of those were arrested.

Apple has always cultivated a culture of confidentially about its work, as a means of maintaining a competitive advantage over the competition.

It makes sense why a company such as Apple wants to keep its product details private until they are primed for release to the public. "The best way to honor those contributions is by not leaking".

The report notes that smartphone companies are required to share details of their upcoming devices with the FCC, which Apple did for the iPhone X in September 2017. And that was just in 2017.

Recent technology, often created by the very companies involved, is making it easier for internal investigators to discover which employees are divulging information. "And they're getting caught faster than ever". A company-wide meeting or email, for instance, could be leaked by anyone.

In the leaked memo, it was stated that all Apple employees who were involved in the leak of pre-release iOS details were caught and fire within days while others who were responsible for sharing product details before the launches were also caught. Hundreds of software engineers were in attendance, and thousands more within the organisation received details of its proceedings.

In the wake of Apple dropping the price of out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacements to $29, demand has become so high that the company is stretching its retail resources to cope -possibly even hiring outside contractors.

"The impact of a leak goes far beyond the people who work on a project", the leaked memo includes. "While it may seem flattering to be approached, it's important to remember that you're getting played", it stated, adding that once a person loses their job for leaking, finding employment elsewhere could be hard.

They said Apple could make an announcement about iTunes music downloads being stopped in early 2019 or by March 31 next year. Employees will likely also fear leaking to correct inaccurate information being passed around publicly. Today, something similar happened to Apple.

In a leaked internal memo, the company had reportedly told employees it "caught 29 leakers" previous year and 12 were arrested.
