Without deal, Brees' agent can field offers from other teams today

Drew Brees takes less to try and win one more with Saints

With three quarterbacks on their roster heading to the open market, the Minnesota Vikings reached out to the agent for free-agent quarterback Drew Brees on Monday, NFL Network reported.

However, one big name came down from a report made on NFL Network and shared by Tom Pelissero on Twitter: the Vikings have looked into the availability of New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees. However a unsafe situation could be evolving if the Vikings make an offer that blows the Saints' stance out the water. They need a quarterback and plan on addressing that need via free agency, and Brees just so happens to be a free agent this offseason after playing on a one-year contract with the Saints in 2017.

Momentum for a reunion between the Saints and TE Jimmy Graham is building, NFL Media's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo tweeted Monday morning, roughly a half-hour after teams and agents could officially start negotiating. If they don't do so by the start of the new league year, $18 million in dead money is going to be stuck on their cap next year regardless of where Brees goes.

For the Vikings, Brees offers a chance to maximize their Super Bowl chances over the next year or two.

Brees, 39, is expected to return to the New Orleans Saints.

Brees has said repeatedly that he'll remain a Saint.

Strief arrived in New Orleans months after Hurricane Katrina and got to be part of the rebirth of both the city and the team, which won its first Super Bowl in the 2009 season.

The situation is worth monitoring as the legal tampering period arrives. While a certain percentage of the fan base will call him greedy and selfish and worse, others may be inclined to blame the team, if the gap between what the team offers and what another team offers is so obviously different that it would be hard to expect Brees to stay put.
