For the ninth year in a row, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin's Population Health Institute released its County Health Rankings, listing Virginia's localities by their health outcomes.

The report includes health, social and economic factors, along with clinical care and health environment.

Local Tennessee counties fared much better than Southwest Virginia.

Meanwhile, Costilla County continues to be its least healthy, as the rankings again showed a strong correlation between low-poverty areas and high-health areas - and vice versa - in the Centennial State. The healthiest county is right here in central Ohio-Delaware County.

It also reports that Leon County ranks 8th out of Florida's 67 counties in terms of "severe housing problems".

Leon County residents reported having experienced four "poor mental health days" within the previous month of the survey.

"We have things to be proud of regarding our health here in McLean County it's not all bad", Slater said.

Those Mississippi counties ranking lower have higher rates of sexually transmitted infections and teen births, as well as a high ratio of people per primary care physicians. "Ironically we would rather focus on the health factor number".

The Buncombe County Family Justice Center (FJC) is an example of a community partnership that has been instrumental in The Rankings.

Dutchess County ranked 14th for health outcomes and ninth for health factors an improvement from 17th in health outcomes past year.

"The time is now to address long-standing challenges child poverty", Julie Willems Van Dijk, director of county health rankings with the foundation, said in a statement.

Forsyth County is ranked as Georgia's healthiest county for the sixth straight year.

He said VDH has mandated every health district conduct a community health assessment, followed by community health improvement plans, to drill down into that particularly area and find the gaps.

The report showed 36 percent of Putnam County children live in poverty, while only 26 percent do in Union.

The goal of the rankings project is to give communities a window into their own health and provide opportunities for improvement.
