Sofiane Bendebka, Walid Derragjada, Amir Karaoui and Ibrahim Amada were also on target as Fidelis Ilechukwu's men will now seek solace in the Caf Confederation Cup.

Plateau United will clash with Etoile du Sahel in today's crucial first round return leg of the CAF Champions League duel, which is slated for the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.

The Lagos side also missed out on a place in the group stages of the Champions League after they lost 7-2 on aggregate to Algeria's MC Alger. The regulation time ended 1-0 in favour of Akwa.

Plateau United have now dropped to the play-offs of the CAF Confederations Cup where they will hope to reach the group stages of the second-tier CAF club competition.

Impressively, the 22-year-old, who was guilty of conceding cheap goals in the home loss to Banjul Hawks of The Gambia in the Preliminary Round, redeemed himself to play a key role in United's progress. The former African club champions had won the first leg 2-0 away in Cotonou last week.

Abdulrahman Bashir, who was later substituted injured, and Chinonso Okonkwo were the scorers of Enyimba's goals.

Nigeria's surviving representative in the CAF Champions League, Plateau United, have been knocked out of the competition.

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, made his debut for Enyimba against the Beninoise following his switch from FC IfeanyiUbah.

Nigeria now ranks last with 12 points on the CAF-competition five-year ranking list, and are now holding onto the last place that will afford them two qualification spots.
