The financially-motivated move was obviously a tough one for the organization. "Brent embodies the City of Philadelphia's temperament and character with his toughness and grit".

"Unfortunately, in this business we are forced to make hard decisions, especially this time of year".

With Celek on his way out, Flyers captain Claude Giroux is now Philadelphia's longest-tenured athlete. Philly drafted him in the fifth round in 2007 and spent his entire 11-year National Football League career with the team. His breakout season came in 2009, a year that saw him compile 971 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.

Celek finished with 398 catches for 4,998 receiving yards and 31 receiving touchdowns in his 175 games with the Eagles.

In nine playoff games Celek had 27 catches for 257 yards and three TDs. He made his first Pro Bowl, earned first-team all-pro honors and served as a key component on the Eagles' offensive line en route to a Super Bowl title.

The Miami native and former second team All-ACC player will command some money based on his past season - whether it comes from the Eagles or another team has yet to be decided, but it seems like the men in green aren't going down without a fight. The Eagles were able to create $7.5 million in cap space according to a report by ESPN NFL Insider Field Yates.

The Eagles also lost tight end Trey Burton after he agreed to a deal with the Chicago Bears, per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
