Detroit Lions release TE Eric Ebron

The Eric Ebron era in Detroit is over

Fuller is the only one to not make a Pro Bowl, and the Chicago Bears just gave him a transition tag worth $13 million.

To say that Ebron was an enigmatic and inconsistent performer during his four years in Detroit would be an understatement. Lions release Eric Ebron on quiet first day of free agency. In hopes of finding Ebron a new home, Detroit started looking for trade partners before last season's trade deadline.

The Lions have signed free agent cornerback DeShawn Shead to a one year deal.

If Ebron's 5th-year option kicked in, the Lions would have been on the hook for $8.25M once the league year officially started. Especially since Taylor Lewan, Odell Beckham, Jr., and Aaron Donald got picked in the three slots after him. Roberts was drafted last season out of Toledo, in the fourth round. He had 136 tackles, two interceptions, one sack, 24 pass defenses and three forced fumbles in 54 games over six seasons with the Seahawks. A fact Lions fans will never get over.

Ebron was extremely productive down the stretch, but his rough first half of 2017 and seemingly neverending ability to generate weird attention online appears to have doomed his Lions career.
