Northumbria Police confirmed more than 35 schools in its region received emails threatening to detonate explosives on their grounds if cash was not handed over.

No schools have been evacuated and Cambridgeshire Police have told us they're treating this very seriously.

'We are working with schools to offer reassurance and address any concerns'.

A MASS email hoax threatening a bomb attack was sent to 400 schools across the United Kingdom - forcing some to be evacuated.

Kantor King Solomon school in Barkingside, east London, said it briefly evacuated pupils but later established there was "no further threat". "We have advised all schools in the county that this is a hoax".

The threats say that a bomb has been placed on school grounds and it will be detonated if demands for cash are not met.

"Detectives have looked into the emails - which appear to originate form the USA - and can confirm that there is no viable threat".

Police forces across the country have been responding to the "threats".

In Yorkshire, police said it had sent its Cybercrime Unit Detectives to look at the emails, and said "it is not believed there is any genuine threat".

At 11.10am the Metropolitan Police tweeted: 'Police are investigating reports of communications made to a number of schools across London today, Monday, 19 March.

Officers are advising schools in the county that this threat is not real.

"The email is a national hoax and an investigation into where it originated from will take place".
