Bagley pours in 33 as Duke routs Notre Dame

Virginia Tech collapses, gets bounced from the ACC Tournament, 71–65

Notre Dame is coming off a loss to Seattle University in Kississimee, Florida. It's recently resurrected senior leader, Bonzie Colson, appeared a worn out, shell of himself after missing almost two months with a broken foot.

In reality, Notre Dame's overall resume may not be enough to get into the tournament even though the team's Basketball Power Index (BPI) is 33rd nationally.

The 10-seed Notre Dame Fighting Irish improved to 20-13 (8-10 ACC) on the season after upsetting the 7-seed Virginia Tech Hokies, 71-65, to advance past the 2nd round of the New York Life ACC Men's Tournament. "But I think we deserve to be in (the NCAA tournament)".

"I definitely think that we're getting better and we're continuing to grow as a team".

"We beat a really good team tonight", Krzyzewski said. Notre Dame also earned 15 total wins against the RPI Top-50, which also leads the nation.

Bagley dominated the second half, hitting 11 of his 12 shots. The Irish's 21 points at half were their fewest since February 3 against NC State when they scored exactly 21, too.

"The seniors have been kind of spoiled", Brey said.

"Maybe we didn't have as much lift in our shot", Farrell said.

Duke thrives on the guys that may not be showing up on college campuses anymore, not if Adam Silver and the National Basketball Association have anything to say about it, and Bagley is the flawless example of that.

"It's always hard to play so many games in so short of a time, but we're not going to use that as an excuse, shots just weren't falling", Notre Dame guard Rex Pfleuger said.

Bagley III, just the second player in ACC history to be named ACC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year in the same season, leads the ACC in scoring (21.2) and leads in rebounding (11.4). The Blue Devils shot 55.4 percent for the game.

Then, a barrage of back-to-back-to-back 3s from Colson, Farrell and TJ Gibbs brought the Irish fans to their feet, and an emotional and momentum-shifting play at the other end of the court completely turned the tide. He kept after the ball on the boards, too, tipping home extra points if he couldn't take the ball down altogether. Farrell's theatrics sent him into press row on the baseline, and Clarke was called for the technical foul. It would be a different conversation if the star senior had not returned and proved he can still impact a game offensively, defensively and with his hustle plays. I may light every candle at our grotto on campus Sunday morning, but we'll be ready for anything.

"I mean, first things first, we've got a Miami team who is obviously one of the storied names in college baseball, regardless of how last year went for them, or how this year thus far has gone for them", Aoki said. Playing their 3rd game in as many days, Notre Dame struggled to put defensive pressure on Duke. Along with Marcquise Reed, the scoring tandem cruised to the midway point of the second half with a 15-point advantage.

With the loss, the Hokies are eliminated from the ACC Tournament, but will receive a bid to the NCAA Tournament this weekend. "When I have my guys back, we're a top 20 team - and I think the committee knows that".

Notre Dame coach Mike Brey picked his poison, deciding to not double-team Bagley in the post.

"We're excited about what the next challenge is in postseason, whatever it may be because we're feeling a little better about where we are physically", Brey said.
