The device could most likely to be the Redmi 5, however, the name of the device is yet to be confirmed by the company.

Xiaomi is launching a new smartphone in India today, which is likely the Redmi 5.

We have already come across a teaser page posted on Amazon India tipping that the Redmi 5 will be exclusive to the online retailer. Watch the event livestream here. The company explains that the yet-to-announced Redmi device will be "powerhouse" as it uses the hashtag #CompactPowerhouse to describe the device.

Earlier, Manu Kumar Jain, Vice President of Xiaomi and Managing Director of Xiaomi India had tweeted that the company sold 1 million units of the Redmi 5A entry-level smartphone in less than a month. Likewise, the upcoming Redmi 5 is also expected to be fall under the budget segment.

Xiaomi had launched the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in December in China. The Plus model, however, was launched in India as the Redmi Note 5. The Redmi 4 was introduced in three RAM and storage variants: 2GB/16GB, 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB for a price of Rs 6,999, Rs 8,999 and Rs 10,999 respectively. The smartphone comes with a microSD card facilitating expandable storage. The 3GB RAM model is priced at Rs. 6,999 in India.

Although Xiaomi hasn't officially revealed which device is being launched Wednesday, the upcoming smartphone is in all likelihood the Redmi 5.

The Redmi Note 5 is equipped with a 5.99-inch full HD+ display. Connectivity options on the smartphone include Bluetooth, dual-SIM card slots with 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, and Global Positioning System.

Under the hood, the Redmi 5 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor along with 2GB/3GB/4GB of RAM. The Redmi 5a Prime has a hybrid 32GB ROM and a 3GB RAM while its counterpart, the Redmi 5a houses 16GB ROM and 2GB RAM.

The Redmi 5 provides dual-SIM support with support for 4G VoLTE, and runs the Android Nougat-based MIUI 9 custom ROM. It has a 12MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash as well as a 5MP front facing snapper with "soft-light" flash module and Beautify 3.0 for capturing enhanced selfies. Redmi 5 is backed by a 3300mAh battery and promises to deliver up to 12 days of standby time.
