Trump Receives Intel Briefings Orally, Not Every Day — WashPost

Despite images handed over to media outlets from his first wife showing her with a black eye she says Porter gave her on their honeymoon in the early-2000s, the president said White House officials "hope he has a wonderful career and he will have a great career ahead of him".

Most famously, President George W. Bush was accused of skipping the dense daily document, after it was learned that, one month before 9/11, a briefing detailed Osama Bin Laden's plan to attack the United States with airplanes.

Eventually, "Trump made clear he was not interested in reviewing a personal copy of the written intelligence report", the Post reports. The article was titled, "Doubting the intelligence, Trump pursues Putin and leaves a Russian threat unchecked".

Donald Trump is the first president since Richard Nixon to not regularly read the President's Daily Brief-a comprehensive update on the world put together by USA intelligence agencies-sources tell the Washington Post, and that has some intelligence experts concerned he's putting the U.S. at risk. Publicly released schedules indicate Trump has been getting these oral intelligence briefings every two or three days.

An unnamed source simply said that reading the intelligence report is not Trump's "style of learning".

That clashes with then Post's current and prior reporting.

"Something will be missed", according to Leon Panetta, a former Central Intelligence Agency director and secretary of defense who also worked as White House chief of staff for President Clinton.

"If for some reason his instincts on what should be done are not backed up by the intelligence because he hasn't taken the time to read that intel, it increases the risk that he will make a mistake", he said.

"Why are we even in Somalia?" or "Why can't I just pull out of Afghanistan?" are examples of what he asks, a source told the Post. "You need to get immersed in a story over its entire course".

Dan Pfeiffer, a former Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama sums it up clearly.
