Thunder rain from deep in win over Grizzlies

With both Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony out with sprained ankles, the Oklahoma City Thunder lost 106-81 to the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. He'll need something closer to the 21-point performance he came up with in his first meeting with Memphis.

It just didn't make shots - for whatever the reason. After missing all seven three-pointers in the first quarter, the Lakers converted six of their 11 three-point attempts in the second quarter and built out a lead that grew as large as 12 points. The optics would have appeared better.

The Grizzlies and the Thunder face off again on Wednesday night at FedEx Forum.

"Well, I mean I'm happy here", George said. George scored 33 points in the contest with Alex Abrines adding 16 points in his first start since December 29 against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Should Westbrook play on Sunday, numberFire projects him for 51.4 FanDuel points.

George said with a game and a practice under his belt, he felt much more comfortable as the focal point of the Thunder's offense, playing much of it at point guard.

This time, George led the way with five.

The Thunder led by as many as nine points in the first quarter, then the Lakers started to heat up, and by the end of the quarter, led 30-27. "Both those guys will continue to do that". The Thunder's new primary facilitator was going to find something that worked - and he was going to stick to it. George finished the game with 29 points, nine rebounds and three assists in the loss.

"I was most proud of the way that we engaged ourselves in the fight this time", Lakers coach Luke Walton said.

It helped Patterson hit two 3s on the way to a season-high 14 points. Alex Abrines was 3-of-10.

"We were actually joking before he went up there, and I'm like, 'Nah, Russ, man, just let it go, let it go Russ". However, the player said he is happy with his current team. "So, I think today, that's what happened".

Tune in to find out if the Lakers will continue their winning ways, or if the Thunder carry the momentum over from their blowout over the Warriors.

Tyreke Evans' return and mindset - Evans will likely be back in the lineup against the Thunder, but it remains to be seen what his mindset will be after he was not traded as expected. And going forward, there's plenty of decisions for them to make. Jerami Grant, too, pitched in 14. That's one thing about this organization and about our team - we never flinch. When the day was over, a win by their largest margin this season showed they have more to sell than cap space. "I thought tonight, we knocked them down".
