Syria: Life 'living nightmare' for children in East Ghouta

"It is mass killing, and we demand the protection of civilians, and we want our voice to reach decision-makers, because this bombing, destruction and killing are systematic", the doctor said.

In eastern Ghouta, rescue workers spent much of the day searching through the rubble of buildings that had collapsed under the airstrikes.

The Syrian government has repeatedly said it only targets militants.

The report said that since the start of the year, at least 11 children who attended Save the Children-supported schools, as well as one of the teachers, have been killed. The Russian officials offered assurances that they would not engage the coalition forces in the area, Veale said.

"The Syrian government renews its call to dissolve this illegitimate coalition", it said.

"That is not realistic", Russian Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia said at the UN.

The main Syrian Kurdish groups remain wedded to their vision of a Syria where they enjoy autonomy in a form of federalism that is at odds with Assad's determination to recover all Syria.

The official state news agency SANA reported on Thursday that the overnight attack hit tribal fighters in Khusham, a town in the oil-rich Deir el-Zour province.

The YPG controls almost all of Syria's frontier with Turkey.

The overnight attack, which killed about 100 according to a USA military, came when hundreds of attackers launched an assault on US -backed forces known as the Syrian Democratic Forces who were accompanied by USA advisers in the oil-rich Deir el-Zour province.

The Turkish government and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan have reacted strongly to people who oppose the operation, and prosecutor's offices have initiated investigations into people who share social media messages critical of the operation.

The Observatory, which relies on a network of activists in Syria, said the Khusham area, near one of the province's largest oil fields, saw intense clashes with heavy weaponry late Wednesday between pro-Assad forces and the SDF.

The official said no United States troops had been killed or wounded in the attack, which was carried out by about 500 fighters, but one Syrian fighter allied with the coalition was wounded. "There must be an immediate halt to the fighting and an end to the siege", she said.
