Porter resigned last week after allegations of domestic abuse from his two ex-wives surfaced.

In an interview in The Washington Post, Sorensen's former wife, Jessica Corbett, detailed a volatile 2 1/2-year marriage in which Sorensen ran over her foot while driving a vehicle and put out a lit cigarette on her hand.

This is true whether Kelly knew of the seriousness of domestic abuse accusations against just-resigned White House Staff Secretary Rob Porter for months - as news reports claim - or whether Kelly did not know.

According to reports, the ex-wives of Porter, Colbie Holderness and Jennifer Willoughby, have both vividly recounted the stories of abuse they suffered in the hands of their former husband.

In a statement to the paper, Mr Sorensen said he was "the victim of repeated physical violence during our marriage, not her". Sources for CNN said in a Wednesday report that Kelly knew about the allegations since last fall because Holderness and Porter's second wife Jennifer Willoughby told their claims to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which tied up Porter's application for a security clearance. "They are not true.' As soon as Rob Porter was proven wrong, he was not telling the truth, when the photos came out Wednesday, he was gone nearly immediately". "John Kelly knows that he serves at the pleasure of the president and he will step aside as soon as - any time the president doesn't want him to be there". And yet, even when the abuse allegations were first reported to the public this week, Kelly came to Porter's defense. "Is there no such thing any longer as Due Process?". "He said, 'Tell Jake I have full faith in Chief of Staff John Kelly and that I am not actively searching for replacements, '" Conway said. Reuters has not independently confirmed the allegations against Porter, or against Trump. New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman said he was sitting in the residence "watching coverage of the last five days re Porter".

Maloney spoke with News 12 about why he says the Porter problem affects everyone, including his constituents in the Hudson Valley.

Once photos emerged showing Porter's ex-wife with a badly bruised face, Mulvaney said, "he was gone nearly immediately".

"We immediately confronted the staffer, he denied the allegations and he resigned today", deputy press secretary Raj Shah said. Then he issued a second statement speaking out against domestic abuse in general without specifically condemning Porter himself.

Social media users reposted a tweet of Mr Trump's from 2012 where he told pop singer Rihanna not to stay with Chris Brown after he assaulted her.
