The first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi will come up on 55,000 square metres of land.

The Prime Minister also made a reference to demonetisation, on which the opposition has often attacked the BJP-led NDA government.

Although Modi's nationalist Hindu party has an uneasy relationship with his country's roughly 170 million Muslims, Modi is still popular among a broad spectrum of Indians.

"We never have and never will reject negotiations", said Abbas.

PM Modi also recounted Indian tradition of "vasudev kutumbakam" and the true significance the concept had acquires especially in a globalized world of today. "I assure you that we will work together to bring to reality the dreams you see, here and in India", he concluded.

He said all Indians are "eternally grateful" to the UAE and the Crown Prince for granting land and permission for Abu Dhabi's first temple. "Taking India story to the business leaders!"

The Burj Khalifa lit up with the Indian flag, along with the ADNOC building in Abu Dhabi and the recently opened Dubai Frame also boasted the Indian flag colours.

"We want to do better".

Modi is now touring the UAE.

Temple artisans from India will be hand-carving the stones and assembling them in the UAE.

Mr Modi paid tributes to martyred soldiers at Wahat Al Karama, UAE's war memorial in Abu Dhabi this morning.
