Pence, who was in South Korea for the Olympics, has said the United States and South Korea were closely aligned in their approach to dealing with North Korea.

With North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un having invited South Korean President Moon Jae In to Pyongyang for a summit, the focus is now on how South Korea can coordinate with the United States to leverage the initiative as an opportunity for denuclearisation talks.

Moon shook hands with both Kim Yo Jong and Kim Yong Nam at the Olympics opening ceremony and they cheered as athletes from North and South entered the arena together behind a unification flag showing an undivided Korean peninsula.

According to journalists in Pyeongchang for the ceremony, it's unclear what the two impersonators were doing, but they apparently made a scene.

Although the ensemble, consisting mainly of young women, is regarded as a propaganda tool of the North Korean regime, its performances were not politically charged in an apparent bid to underline harmony between the two Koreas.

After arriving at the South's Incheon International Airport - the North's flagship airline is subject to sanctions - she traveled to Pyeongchang for the opening ceremony, where the North and South Korean athletes marched together behind a blue-and-white "unification" flag for the first time in more than a decade.

Vice President Mike Pence's efforts to keep North Korea from stealing the show at the Winter Olympics proved short-lived, drowned out by images of the two Koreas marching and competing as one.

The thaw between North and South ahead of the Olympics comes at a time when Pyongyang is under tightening United Nations sanctions imposed over its nuclear and missile programs, having tested missiles past year that could hit other continents.

"Her being here is not that bad, but I feel North Korea has shown up to the Olympics without paying", Yoon told CNN during Saturday's hockey match between Switzerland and the unified Korean team.

There were South Koreans who agreed with Pence's stance.

She added that during her attempt to escape North Korea, she was trafficked by a human trafficker and got pregnant.

However, few officials have said this in quite the colorful language that Trump has used.

North Korea has spent years developing its military, saying it needs to protect itself from US aggression. Mr. Pence said he planned to "stand with our allies and remind the world that North Korea is the most tyrannical and oppressive regime on the planet".

Moon made it clear that the issue was an internal affair and that it was inappropriate for Abe to have brought up the matter, Reuters reported. They were joined by North Korea's nominal head of state, Kim Yong Nam.

Officials traveling with Pence said it would be fair to characterize his failure to interact with the North Koreans as a mutual decision, with neither side making any public overtures.

The younger Kim delivered the DPRK leader's message, saying the DPRK leader is willing to meet President Moon at an earliest possible date. But the North was welcomed with open arms to what South Korean President Moon Jae-in called "Olympic games of peace". The U.S.is wise to the ruse.

In many ways, the 2018 Winter Olympics are a celebration of all that is right about the world.

Hundreds of Twitter users in recent days have referred to "Pyongyang2018", and while some were making a dig at the presence of North Korea at the Games, in many cases it appears to have been a simple mix-up. In January 1968, Ms. Kim Yo Jong's grandfather, founding North Korean president Kim Il Sung, sent a squad of North Korean commandos to Seoul who tried unsuccessfully to kill then-president Park Chung-hee.
