Man texts 'LOL' in group text as woman dies from overdose

Victim Noceda died after snorting painkillers and taking a'dab of liquid THC

Varela and other witnesses told police Noceda snorted a "large line of Percs" (painkillers), and then took a "dab" of liquid THC.

According to Noceda's mother, she went to a party on Saturday in a mobile home park where Varela lived.

According to Varela, the girl had taken multiple drugs that caused her to overdose. The suspect indicated that he was having sex with the girl while she was in this condition "to pass the time", according to court records obtained by the newspaper.

Brian Roberto Varela, of Lynwood, was taken into custody on Tuesday on suspicion of manslaughter, homicide by controlled substance and second-degree rape in the death of 18-year-old Alyssa Mae Noceda.

That night, Varela sent a group text to friends that read: "LOL I think she od'd, still breathing", according to court papers. The next morning, Noceda was dead.

He washed her body to try and remove any DNA evidence, locked her body in his room and went to work at a branch of the Dairy Queen fast-food chain, it's alleged. He allegedly showed her body to his roommate, who later recalled to the police that the victim appeared stiff and had foam around her mouth. The suspect asked for his roommate's help, and the roommate claims he told Varela to call the police.

He went to bed instead, it is claimed, then to his job at a Dairy Queen the next day, where he allegedly boasted of having sex with Alyssa, and said he had to bury a body.

He is also said to have described how he broke her legs to fit her body into a bag - which he said he was going to fill with onions and bury.

One of Varela's colleagues contacted the authorities after seeing a Facebook post written by Noceda's mother reporting that her daughter was missing. During and after the sexual assault, Varela texted and Snapchatted her friends to make it appear she was alive and had willingly run away, the AP first reported.

He was charged Friday in Snohomish County Superior Court. He then dumped the device at a construction site.

During the hearing, the deputy prosecutor said that the reported actions were callous and showed a shocking disregard for human life.

A relative of the victim created a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign to help support her grieving family. As of Friday afternoon, just short of $5,000 has been raised.
