The Israeli army launched a large-scale attack against the Syrian aerial defense system and Iranian targets in Syria after an Israeli F-16 fighter was hit by missiles from Syria and crashed Saturday morning.

"This is a serious Iranian attack on Israeli territory", Israel's chief military spokesman asserted, according to Fox News.

Israeli aircraft then attacked Syrian and "Iranian targets in Syria", the military says.

But while the Syrian missile repository may be restocked, and its air defense technology upgraded, the most consequential development may be that Damascus now has adequate attention to spare to confront an aggressive Israel.

Then came reports of Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, constantly holding security meetings with military and other staff, imaginably anxious, and struggling to look composed in a political and military field of fight where, with Russian military presence, he has little room to wiggle.

'The US continues to push back on the totality of Iran's malign activities in the region and calls for an end to Iranian behaviour that threatens peace and stability'.

In subsequent attacks, Israel struck four additional Iranian positions and eight Syrian sites in Syria. "This incident proves every one of those warnings correct", Danon wrote.

They landed inside Israel and were taken to hospital. The Russian officers are stationed at most of Syria's anti-aircraft bases, where they are teaching the use of the air defense systems that Moscow has sold to Assad, and in some cases, in bases in the northwest of the country, they control these systems, for the defense of Russian forces stationed there.

Israel has sought to avoid direct involvement in the Syria conflict but acknowledges carrying out dozens of air raids there to stop what it calls deliveries of advanced weaponry to Hezbollah. Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasem called the Israeli claim "ridiculous". Gen. Ronen Manelis, said in a statement earlier Saturday. Israeli time, as air raid sirens wailed over the communities of the Beit Shean Valley in the lower Galilee. Israel, which considers Iran its most potent enemy in the region, has been lobbying world powers - so far, apparently, without success - to distance these forces from the border areas.

Separately, Iran issued a statement with Syria's other main allies - Russian Federation and Lebanese militant group Hezbollah - denying Israel's drone allegations.

"We consider it necessary to unconditionally respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and other countries of the region", it added.

The Israeli army released a video showing the incursion of the drone, which was shot down by Apache helicopters.

Netanyahu also spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday night, a key regional player and an ally of both Israel and Iran.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the Israeli airstrikes had killed at least six Syrian troops and allied militiamen. Responding anti-aircraft fire led to the downing of an Israeli fighter jet.
