Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas terming Modi's visit as "historic" sought India's intervention to resolve conflict with Israel.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in a meeting discussed the full range of India-Palestine ties following which the two sides signed six agreements worth around Dollars 50 million that includes setting up of a USD 30 million super speciality hospital in Beit Sahur.

Following his arrival, he laid a wreath on the tomb of former Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat and visited the 15-month-old Yasser Arafat Museum.

Resentment among people is high that the BJP didn't bother to fulfill its pre-2014 poll promises; also, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comment on "selling pakoras" as a means of employment hasn't gone down well with many unemployed youths.

The visit is likely to see a reiteration of India's support to the Palestinian cause.

Palestinian official Nabil Shaath said Modi and Abbas are to sign cooperation agreements worth $50 million.

There is a strong opinion growing in Palestine that with the disruptive role that the United States has played on the issue of Jerusalem and with the closeness that Modi shares with Benjamin Netanyahu, India could be an influencer rather than a disruptor. Asserting that Palestine was ready for to engage in negotiations with India, Abbas said they rely on India's role as an global force and its role in the non-alignment movement for desired peace in the region.

In a special recognition of the Prime Minister's contribution to relations between India and Palestine, President Abbas confers the Grand Collar of the State of Palestine on him after the conclusion of their bilateral meeting.

During the visit, PM Modi will inaugurate work on establishing the Palestine Institute of Diplomacy, which India is helping to build through a US$ 4.5 million aid. He will take a chopper from Amman, Jordan to the Palestinian city.

This will be his fourth meeting with the Palestine President.

Modi also announced to enhance the number of scholarships being provided to Palestinians in the exchange programme from 50 to 100.

Kumar highlighted Modi s planned activities at the 6th World Government Summit, WGS 2018, which will be held on Sunday, under the patronage of the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. After the community event which will take place in a big stadium in Muscat, Mr Modi will meet with Sultan Qaboos and there will be a special dinner hosted by Sultan Qaboos in honor of the Prime Minister.
