Google Hit with Class Action Lawsuit Over Pixel Smartphone Glitches

Google’s Pixel smartphones are defected with microphone issues

Google has been hit with a class action lawsuit in the United States for issues with microphone on the first-generation Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. The sale covers its Home range, and includes an offer on cases for its Pixel 2 devices, though the handsets themselves haven't been discounted. The suit requests a jury trial and accuses Google of shipping the phones with defective parts in addition to how it handled customer complaints about the defects. An employee on Google's support forums attributed the problems to "a hairline crack in the solder connection on the audio codec", and said the problem could come and go depending on the temperature of the phone or the way it's being held.

"Instead of fixing the defective Pixel phones, providing refunds, or replacing the devices with non-defective phones, Google has replaced defective phones with other defective phones, resulting in many consumers repeatedly experiencing the microphone defect", the plaintiffs claim.

Google's Pixel phones were the first of the company's handsets to be marketed as "Made by Google", in contrast to earlier "Nexus" phones that were openly designed by third-party firms. Worse, Google continued selling the phones despite growing evidence of the issues.

Readers who have experienced the issue mentioned above may qualify in the lawsuit.

That's basically it. If you bought an original Pixel or Pixel XL phone at any point starting October 4, 2016, then you're qualified to join the class action lawsuit, regardless if your phone exhibited problems or not. It might also explain how to properly file a claim suppose the court rules against Google and rewards participants with a certain sum, like what happened with the LG bootloop lawsuit. Pixel 2 and XL2 users have complained of burn-in and black image smudging with the phones' OLED displays, along with muted microphone problems. However, the only option given to customers was to have their phones replaced under warranty.

The original Pixel phones were meant to showcase the very best of Google's Android software, and were meant to help Google better compete with Apple's iPhone.
