Sheriff Price, Johnson County Deputies along with Paintsville PD and the Kentucky State Police began a coordinated search of possible locations. It is thought that Nickell shot the women and then turned the gun on himself.

The first call for help coming in around 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Two victims were found dead in the kitchen. A man and a woman were found dead inside a residence in the Volga area and two women and the suspect were found deceased in Paintsville, about seven miles away.

The victims were not immediately identified and it is unclear what their connection to the shooter was. The sheriff's office, Kentucky State Police and Paintsville police searched for the suspect together and notified neighboring counties to be on the lookout for Nickell who was considered armed and risky.

The names of the victims is being withheld while their families are notified.
