London City Airport Shutdown After Discovery Of WWII Bomb

"The airport is cooperating fully with the Met Police and Royal Navy and working hard to safely remove the device and resolve the situation as quickly as possible".

London City Airport has closed this morning after a World War 2 bomb was found nearby.

City Airport operates short-haul flights and is located in east London, close to the Canary Wharf business district. Passengers have been advised not to travel to the airport until further notice, according to a statement on the London City Airport's website.

Airlines including City Jet, Flybe, and British Airways fly in and out on London City Airport every day.

You can check the affected flights to and from Dublin Airport here (arrivals) and here (departures).

"Overnight, officers have been helping to evacuate properties within the exclusion zone and police are working with the local authority to provide residents with temporary emergency accommodation and the appropriate support", police said in a statement.

A spokesman said on Sunday night: "At 10pm an operational decision was made with the Royal Navy to implement a 214-metre exclusion zone to ensure that the ordnance can be safely dealt with whilst limiting any risk to the public".

German Air Forces during "Blitz" in September 1940 and May 1941 dropped thousands of bombs on London.

The unexploded bomb was found during planned development procedures at the King George V docks.
