WWE Raw 25 Fails to Live Up to Fans' Sky-High Expectations

Stone Cold Steve Austin is set to return for WWE's Raw 25th Anniversary show

WWE fans went nuts on the 25th anniversary edition of Raw as Stone Cold Steve Austin returned to the ring, interrupting the McMahons.

Especially with the idea of having some people over at the historic Manhattan Center - where the first-ever RAW was held - and some at Barclays in Downtown Brooklyn.

The evening of Monday, January 22 marked the 25th anniversary of WWE's weekly episodic TV show, Monday Night Raw. There were many legends from the past that made the show feel much more important than a typical Raw.

It wasn't all about the past, though; this show was the final Raw before Sunday's Royal Rumble and there was a key title change, as The Miz capped his recent return by capturing the Intercontinental championship from Roman Reigns.

However, when Vince McMahon started to run his mouth at the start of Raw, unhappy with his plaque from children Shane and Stephanie, it became clear that Austin was about to enter the fray. Stone Cold answered to the reaper.

One of the Revival guys tried to counter attack and was soon nipped off and was followed by a series of finishers and was finally capped off by Balor's Coup de Grace and that was it from the iconic Manhattan Center.

Roman Reigns may have been Intercontinental Champion, but The Miz has always been THE Intercontinental Champion who truly defined the title. On a show full of nostalgia this was one of the few times something was built for the Royal Rumble show on Sunday.

There was nice moment when they brought out former WWE stars such as The Bella Twins, Terri Runnels, Jaqueline, Torrie Wilson, and last but not least Trish Stratus. John Cena, who had already picked up a Xmas victory against Elias in 2017, made a decision to dampen his ring appearance and the two eventually came to blows. It was far more crass and unseemly back then, and the blink-and-you'll-miss-them matches couldn't be further from the 20 minute marathons used to eat up Raw " s current (unnecessarily long) three-hour runtime.
