Trump Gives The Iran Deal One Last Lifeline

Glimmers of hope in Iran economy despite Trump

Iran's Foreign Ministry said Saturday that the Trump administration had "crossed a red line of worldwide behavior" by imposing sanctions against Amoli-Larijani.

"The United States will not stand by while the Iranian regime continues to engage in human rights abuses and injustice", Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said in a statement.

The decision comes as Iran's government deals with protests over economic hardships and corruption that are linked to frustration among younger Iranians who hoped to see more benefits from the lifting of sanctions.

"Then we achieve a permanent bar on Iran from ever getting a nuclear weapon or a long-range ballistic missile". "But any bill I sign must include four critical components", he said.

He said Iran must allow "immediate inspections at all sites requested by global inspectors" and that provisions preventing Iran from possessing a nuclear weapon must not expire.

That possibility is likely to be a big deal if the world tries to call Trump's bluff on the four month ultimatum, as he's always been inclined to kill the deal, but would look foolish if he tried to kill the deal only to have it continue without U.S. involvement, effectively removing the USA from the nations involved in enforcement of the terms. My policy is to deny Iran all paths to a nuclear weapon-not just for ten years, but forever.

The news will be cautiously welcomed by British leaders and European Union figures who have lobbied hard to keep the Iran nuclear deal in place.

USA officials said the new sanctions were for human-rights abuses by the Iranian regime during its response to civil protests, and for weapons proliferation.

"The nuclear deal is an internationally recognized and concluded pact and is not renegotiable", the Foreign Ministry in Tehran said in a statement Saturday.

Trump has argued that his predecessor, President Barack Obama, a Democrat, negotiated a bad deal for the United States in agreeing to the nuclear accord.

He also said the deal was key to maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East and that it was China's "consistent and clear-cut position" to oppose unilateral sanctions.

The regime in Iran has slammed the decision by the USA president Donald trump of targeting their judiciary chief with sanctions.

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif (L) addresses anchor Charlie Rose, at an event held in conjunction with the 72nd United Nations General Assembly in Manhattan, New York, U.S., September 27, 2017.

It has also said it will stick to the accord as long as the other signatories respect it, but will "shred" the deal if Washington pulls out. According to Federica Mogherini, the "deal is working; it is delivering on its main goal, which means keeping the Iranian nuclear program in check and under close surveillance". Russian Federation and China are adamantly opposed to renegotiating the deal, as is Iran.

The president wants Congress to modify a law that reviews U.S. participation in the nuclear deal to include "trigger points" that, if violated, would lead to the United States reimposing its sanctions, the official said.
