North and Central halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center, the official venue for CES, were hit by a major power outage that lasted for nearly two hours on Wednesday, Jan. 10. Power was fully restored at 2:10 p.m., as was shared by the organizers of CES 2018.

In a joint statement the Las Vegas Visitor and Convention Authority, NV Energy and Consumer Technology Association (CTA), said condensation from yesterday's rain was what led to the outage. Affected areas included the Central and South Hall bridge meeting rooms of the Las Vegas Convention Center. And still others were incredulous about how the biggest tech show in the world could lose electricity in the first place.

Companies affected by the outage included LG, Samsung and Sony, The Verge reports, along with tech start-up firms that "paid thousands of dollars to have a presence on the massive show floor".

Daily Dot technology reporter Phillip Tracy was on site at the Las Vegas Convention Center when it happened. Thanks for your continued patience.

Heavy rainfall caused the rare power interruption, as Las Vegas experienced an unusually heavy downpour that also caused flooding in some of the booths at the CES, including Google's. The hashtag #CESBlackout was born.

The power outage wasn't the only mishap of the week.

And in a sign of the huge energy draw from the tech show, once the crowds were let back in, the return to full, blazing electronic glory was slow. The power outrage, caused by an error with fairly rudimentary electronics, is ironic considering the wealth of next-generation technology exhibited throughout the event.

TV maker LG's OLED Canyon display demo, with 246 OLED panels and more than 30 high-definition generators, took almost an hour to get back in full operation.
