Snow chances trending lower for Wednesday

Deep Freeze, Snow Flurries Ahead After Sunday Warm-Up

Deep Freeze, Snow Flurries Ahead After Sunday Warm-Up

Clouds linger through Saturday morning and then we will see late day sunshine and temperatures rising into the middle 30s.

Overall, the weather pattern next week favors more of a typical Carolina winter storm setup, where areas of the northern and western parts of the Carolinas have the best risk of snow and ice, while areas closer to the coast see mainly a cold rain with a few flurries possible. In the previous storm, bitter cold Arctic air was in place and there was no doubt that frozen precipitation would fall.

With clear skies tonight and a northwest wind, temps will sink quickly into the low to mid single digits in most areas, so if you're heading out, bundle up and watch for slick spots on the roadways. Temperatures struggle through the teens into the low 20s during the morning hours, with afternoon highs in the upper 20s to near 30. Risky wind chills are possible by Tuesday morning, ranging from 10 to 20 below zero.

Today: Morning clouds, becoming mostly sunny by afternoon.

A FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY has been issued for overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning for snow moving into the area. Low around 2. Northerly wind 5 to 15mph.

3/10 (→): The threat of a bigger snowstorm seems to be decreasing, but some measurable snow is still possible late Tuesday into early Wednesday. Showers will taper off from north to south Monday afternoon.

High temperatures on Monday will only reach the upper 20s thanks to cloudy skies. Wind: N 15-25; gusty. That not as bad as yesterday, but enough to keep wind chills in the teens.
