Search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 to resume

A USA -based company early this week dispatched the search vessel Seabed Constructor to look for debris in the southern Indian Ocean, 3 1/2 years after the Boeing 777 disappeared on a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 227 passengers and 12 crew.

Malaysia will allow a US-based exploration firm to resume the search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, an airline support group told families of the victims on Friday, in a bid to solve one of the world's greatest aviation mysteries.

The governments of Malaysia, China and Australia called off the 1,046-day official search on January 17 previous year.

But it looks set to resume soon.

"In a note dated 5 January 2018, next-of-kin were advised the Government of Malaysia has engaged Ocean Infinity to undertake further search operation for MH370 on a "No Cure No Fee" basis".

Website Vessel Finder put the Seabed Constructor, which has been chartered by USA company Ocean Infinity, off the coast of Africa Wednesday morning with its destination listed as "Perth" on February 7.

"The family members of passengers and crew of missing flight MH370 were recently notified by Malaysian authorities of the engagement of ocean exploration company Ocean Infinity to resume the search", they said in statement.

A spokesman for the company added: "The company are awaiting final contract award before the search recommences".

"China family members, therefore, call for the public release of the full terms and conditions negotiated between the Malaysian government and Ocean Infinity".

Ocean Infinity said it was moving Seabed Constructor, the vessel that the company uses for the search, towards the vicinity of the possible search zone given that the weather window would be relatively narrow.

Only three confirmed fragments of MH370 have been found, all of them on western Indian Ocean shores, including a two-metre wing part known as a flaperon.
