"We are shocked and distressed to hear of the passing of "Dolly" - the young girl many of you will recognize from our past Christmas adverts", the company wrote on Instagram while sharing a photo of the girl, taken when she was 6 for its ad.

Dolly grew up in the town of Katherine, and attended boarding school in Queensland, according to ABC.

"This powerful message tells the dark, scary place our handsome angel had travelled to", her family said.

He said: "If by some chance the people who thought this was a joke and made themselves feel superior by the constant bullying and harassment see this post, please come to our service and witness the complete devastation you have created".

In a heartbreaking Facebook post, Amy "Dolly" Everett's father said his daughter had taken her life "to escape the evil in this world".

"However, unfortunately, Dolly will never know the great pain and emptiness left behind".

The Scots PGC College student was a former face of retail giant Akubra hats.

Akubra Hats also paid tribute to the youngster in an emotional Facebook post - accompanied by a attractive photo of Dolly, taken eight years ago.

In a statement given to ABC on January 10, 2018, Tick and Kate Everett together with daughter Meg thanked the Northern Territory community of Katherine for the "overwhelming response we have received since our world came crashing down around us when our handsome Dolly left our family".

Scots PGC College principal Kyle Thompson said he was deeply saddened by the loss to the school community.

He thanked those who have supported the family amid the hard situation.

A close family friend said a young life with a lot of potential had been lost.

In a poignant Facebook post that quickly went viral, Mr Everett wrote: "This week has been an example of how social media should be used, it has also been an example of how it shouldn't be".

Following Dolly's death friends and supporters have taken to social media to voice their sadness while some even shared their own experiences with bullying and mental health.

"I reckon 99 per cent of people wouldn't know what their kids are dealing with these days".

"It is up to us to stand up when we see any kind of bullying behavior".

Friends and family are asked to wear blue, which was Dolly's favourite colour.

A memorial service will be held for Dolly in Katherine, in the Northern Territory, where she is originally from, on Friday.
