The Aligarh Muslim University's Kashmiri scholar who joined Hizbul was identified as Mannan Bashir Wani. IG of Kashmir had suspected that Mannan's photograph may have been photoshopped by some miscreants and that they are trying to locate him.

" I never expected that my son would make any decision without discussing with me", Bashir Ahmed Wani from Tekipora area of Lolab, Kupwara said.

A PhD student who had gone missing few days back has reportedly joined Hizbul Mujahideen outfit as his picture posing with an AK rifle has goes viral on social media in Jammu and Kashmir.

Aligarh police chief Rajesh Pandey said on Monday that the room at the hostel, where Mannan had been living, was raided and articles, including some literature and other documents had been recovered from there.


"Police registered a case after a missing report was field by his family today", GNS quoted a police officer as saying.

The 25-year-old research scholar was disappeared a week ago and was suppose to be on his way home.

Local sources said that Mannan belongs to a well of family as his father is a Lecturer and brother is a Junior Engineer.

Wani had enrolled in AMU after successfully completing Bachelors in Geology and Earth Sciences from the University of Kashmir. "However, he didn't report back home", the sources said.
