African ambassadors to United Nations attack Trump's 'racist' remarks

"We would not deign to make comments as derogatory as that about any country that has any kind of socio-economic or other difficulties", Duarte said, adding that much like their African counterparts, millions of United States citizens were affected by problems such as unemployment.

"The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used", Trump said. "What was really tough was the outlandish proposal made - a big setback for DACA!"

Mr Trump reportedly made the remarks at a White House meeting on immigration on Thursday.

There was no mention at that time of the language that sources said Trump had used, details of which were soon leaked.

Democrats have dismissed Trump's denial of the offensive comments, with Senator Dick Durbin, who attended the meeting, disputing Trump's account. Sens. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., and David Perdue, R-Ga., were also pushing for lowered levels of legal immigration.

He said the president repeatedly used the word "sh**hole" when speaking about African countries. Instead, she said, the country has been subjected to Trump's ire.

After an emergency session to weigh Trump's remarks, the African Group of United Nations ambassadors said it was "concerned at the continuing and growing trend from the U.S. administration toward Africa and people of African descent to denigrate the continent and people of color".

He described his language as tough but not derogatory. "That's when he used these vile and vulgar comments". Mr Durbin told reporters in Chicago.

The president past year ended temporary protection from deportation for the DREAMers, under the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrvials, or DACA, program.

Trump on Thursday rejected a pitch from a bipartisan team of senators on a compromise immigration deal to protect DACA participants while increasing border security.

"President Donald Trump's words describing the glorious people of Africa, El Salvador and Haiti are far worse than mere insensitivity or even nationalism". With some lawmakers present at the oval office meeting refusing to confirm Trump's comments, and two more contending they simply don't recall, it seems unlikely a presidential mea culpa is forthcoming.

But Mr Trump has denied using the language reported. He also claimed the deal would force the U.S. to "to take large numbers of people from high crime countries which are doing badly", but did not offer any specifics or evidence. Not only does it rank as the happiest country on the planet, but also three out of every four Norwegians consider Trump a threat to the world.

Jacques immigrated to Jacksonville in 2009 and now helps other immigrants from his home country. "Why do we want people from Haiti here?" I want to stop the massive inflow of drugs.
