The East Tennessee farmer said that surplus depressed tree prices, which, combined with the Great Recession a few years later, pushed Christmas tree growers out of the market.

The hunt for the ideal Christmas tree may be a bit trickier this year but Albertans will still have options for their ornaments. Off to the Christmas tree lot we went. On its Facebook page over the weekend, ACTA published a post claiming that "there's a Christmas tree out there for everyone"-an artificial one".

Her latest tree was decorated for the Pathways Center in Greensboro - a family shelter operated by Greensboro Urban Ministry.

"There is no shortage of Christmas tree options for consumers", ACTA Executive Director Jami Warner said in the release. As years passed, the older two began begging for a real tree and as children tend to do, they eventually wore us down. A caller suggested building a metal base, and securing the tree to a pole and then installing a bladder to water it top down...a bladder for the tree?!?

The tree farm opens for the season each year on the day after Thanksgiving. There is the ornament shaped like a cowboy boot (Texas girl born and raised) that is so heavy I generally put it under the tree rather than hanging it up. The needle retention for Fraser firs is very good.

For the first few years of my life, the ornaments were round with illustrations on them along with the year.

And now, according to stats from eBay, online shoppers have replaced the traditional tree for pink trees. You would be surprised how many times we've all brought home trees too large for our designated spaces. The tree has a strong scent and its strong slender twigs hold ornaments well. "Like we'll go to the arboretum and pick up the pine cones, and they smell gorgeous".

If this sounds like a fun tradition to you, you can get one here. Also, if you have a fake tree, make sure it's fire resistant by checking the label.

But not everyone has the room or desire for a fresh cut, evergreen tree for the holidays. Don't allow the water level to drop below the bottom of the tree, as a seal will form on the bottom and the tree will stop absorbing water (you'll have to make a new cut).

In addition to the trees he culls from his farm, he orders Noble and Douglas firs from the Pacific Northwest to fill out the selection at his roadside stands here in Austin. Experts agree that these do nothing to maintain the freshness of the tree.

Place your tree away from fireplaces, radiators, television sets, and other sources of heat. Turn off the tree lights when you leave and before you retire at night. If you have a metallic tree, do not use electric lights.

A well-maintained tree should normally remain fresh at least three to four weeks before drying to an unacceptable level.

"We give him a dustpan and brush and let him clean up the pine needles", she laughed. If they break easily or fall off in your hand, the tree is dry and should be discarded.
