Palestinians injured in clashes with Israeli in Gaza city

An Israeli siren smartphone app has warned that missiles were fired at southern Israel near the Gaza Strip on Thursday.

An Israeli tank returned fire.

The IDF held Hamas responsible for the hostile activity perpetrated against Israel from the Gaza Strip, said the statement.

The clashes erupted after a group of Palestinian youth protested against US President Donald Trump's decision to move his country's embassy to Jerusalem.

The Spokesperson's Unit also confirmed a third rocket that was sacked toward Israel and reached Israeli territory.

They added that two other shells were also fired from Gaza, but landed inside the Gaza Strip.

Later in the evening another launch was reported with rockets said to have fallen in open fields in Israeli territory.

The Palestinian Authority called for a general strike in Palestinian cities as a result of Trump's declaration, while Hamas has taken a harder line and is advocating for a new Palestinian uprising.

Last week, the Islamic Jihad launched a dozen mortar shells at an army post northeast of the Strip, causing no injuries but some damage to army equipment.

It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip said that Israeli soldiers shot and injured nine Palestinians, protesting near the border fence in the coastal region.

Trump's announcement, which was warmly received by Israel, overturns decades of precedent and runs counter to worldwide consensus, with no other country now taking the same stance.

Both Israelis and Palestinians lay claim to Jerusalem, although Israel has retained control over the city since 1967.

The Palestinians seek the eastern sector of the city as the capital of their future state.
